LEWISHAM BOOK AWARD WINNERS 2012
The Lewisham Book Award event took place at St Matthew Academy this year and was attended by teams from six secondary schools.
Those who attend have qualified by reading the entire shortlist of recommended books. The event is a challenge too because they walk into a room and immediately join a group of students they have never met before. Over the next hour the team creates a presentation together which they give before the entire audience. The presentations are judged by a visiting author and this year we invited Phil Earle, whose book Being Billy featured on the shortlist.
The winning team featured boys from both Forest Hill School and Bonus Pastor Catholic College. We were represented by Jacob Smith D8G, Imran Conteh R8F, Rowan Chaplin H8F and Kameron Reynolds S8G.
FOREST HILL PUPILS WIN 1st PLACE IN LEWISHAM BOOK AWARD CHALLENGE
May 2011
Forest Hill School achieved 1st place in this year’s Lewisham Book Award Challenge which was held at St Matthew Academy.
The winning students were Belal Gheran R8G and Travis Barton S8F.
The challenge consists of creating a presentation about one of the shortlisted books in a team with students from other schools in less than an hour and then presenting it in front of an audience from all seven participating secondary schools. An activity that many adults would find challenging!
All of our students performed brilliantly: Elliot Scott H8G, Nathan Henry D8G, Luke Kenyon R8G, Vionard Sillah S8G and Rudi Clayton R8F.
More students participated and completed this challenge in our school compared to any of the other Lewisham secondary schools. And they say ‘boys don’t read’ - they need to meet the Forest Hill boys!

FOREST HILL PUPILS WIN 1st & 2nd PLACES IN LEWISHAM BOOK AWARD CHALLENGE
September 2009
They walk into a room and are immediately put into a team with people they have not met before. In less than an hour they have to produce a joint presentation based on one of the books from the Challenge shortlist. Finally, they stand up in a room of 70 people, most of whom they have never met before, and present their work. A challenge that many adults would find difficult! Our boys met the challenge magnificently. They were a credit to their families and the school.
