Forest Hill School Garden
Did you know that here at FHS we have a thriving Gardening Club, with an allotment on site lovingly tended by our students?
The Club has been running for three years - at the beginning there was nothing but but bare earth, now it is a haven of lush vegetation (in spring and summer anyway!)
They have been awarded several prizes.
In July 2011 they came 2nd in the Lewisham in Bloom Award (Schools category), having come 1st in 2010 and 2nd in 2009.
In May 2011 they won the Capital Growth/Mayor of London AB Seed competition for best London secondary school edible garden. The prize included two students being able to spend a day as apprentices in Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in Old Street.
They won an RHS Bronze Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in May 2010!
Also in 2010 they were awarded the London In Bloom Certificate of Excellence.
The Gardening Club members have so far achieved Level 4 in the RHS Benchmark Scheme, supported by the campaign for School Gardening.
Visitors to Forest Fest will know that the wonderful vegetable produce and flowering planters that the students grow in the garden are a regular feature and always sell well.
You can watch a short film about the garden here.
Students who are interested in joining the Gardening Club will be made welcome on Tuesdays after school in Room 37a - hot chocolate is provided to warm you up in these colder months!
