Olympic Athletes Visit Forest Hill School
Jonathan Edwards CBE and Conrad Williams visited the school on Friday 26 February. Jonathan Edwards was Olympic Champion in the Triple Jump at the Sydney 2000 Games. He set the current world record for the event in 1995 and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Conrad WIlliams was a silver medallist in the 4x400m relay in the World Athletics Championships in August 2009. He lives, works and trains in Lewisham where he is currently preparing for the London 2012 Games.
Jonathan and Conrad spoke to a group of Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students about their athletics careers and achievements. Jonathan also spoke about his current career commentating and presenting for the BBC and his involvement in preparations for the London 2012 Games as the athlete representative on the London Organising Committee. Our students learned about the opportunities for young people to get involved in the London 2012 Games and were able to ask questions and talk about issues they were interested in. Everyone involved felt it was a very informative, inspiring and enjoyable visit.
