School Performance
Message from Steve Brady, Headteacher
I am delighted to report that the summer GCSE and A level results were once again extremely pleasing.
The number of students achieving 5 A*-C grades reached record levels (63%) with the performance of the core subjects central to this success – 64% A*-C in Maths; 62% in English and 57% of students achieving two good GCSEs in Science.
Our contextualised value added score, which measure progress against prior attainment, has improved significantly placing us in the top 25% of all schools nationally.
Results in the sixth form were characterised by an increase in the number of students obtaining the higher grades. The early entry policy for most Year 10 students in Maths and English Literature continues to prove successful with 48% and 61% of the cohort already having achieved GCSE at grades A*-C.
Our Summer Spectacular, ‘Forest Fest’, in July was an outstanding success attracting hundreds of performers and large audiences with entertainment continuing well into the evening. Planning for next year’s event is already under way and will focus on the theme of cultural diversity within our community.
The results of the student perceptions survey were enlightening and we will be working with the school council to respond to their views and opinions. The summary indicated that the school has reason to be happy with most of its activities. The boys felt the school was good at developing their potential, offering encouragement and generally helping them to improve. Opportunities outside and beyond the classroom were seen as good. The boys would like us to look at the variety of subject choices available and, interestingly, a number of comments focus on making lessons more active and engaging.
In the latter part of the Spring term we will be giving all parents the opportunity to share their perceptions of the school through a detailed questionnaire. I hope you will all take the opportunity to let us know what you really think!
