Lewisham Sport Awards 2011
Forest Hill School won several accolades at the Lewisham Sport Awards 2011, which took place at the Broadway Theatre on Thursday 23 February 2012.
The Awards Evening was to recognise and celebrate the sporting achievements of individuals, teams, clubs and schools in Lewisham who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in 2011.
FHS Athletics Squad took first prize in the School Team of the Year Award, with the FHS Cross Country Squad coming third.
Nathan Kadibu, R10G, was awarded third place in the Junior Sportsman of the Year Award, with first place going to a former Forest Hill student, Rowell Graham, who is now at college.
Two Forest Hill School students were acknowledged in the Male Rising Star of the Year Award - Oliver Hickford, D11F, achieved third place and Said Gabo, R10F, was awarded second place.
Well done to everyone who achieved an award. We look forward to even more sporting success in 2012!
ATHLETICS
The Athletics season will soon be upon us once again and I hope to see both “old faces” and new recruits working towards us maintaining our outstanding record of success – we have been Lewisham Champions for five out of the past six seasons.
Training sessions have already started for some students and these will increase over the next few weeks and leading up to the first major competition, the Lewisham Championships in early May.
In addition, a new training group for Year 7 and 8 students has been set up by Kent Athletic Club. These will take place on Tuesday evenings at Ladywell Arena from 6.30 to 7.40 and will be run by UK Athletics qualified coaches. The sessions will begin on March 13th and the cost is only £1.20 per session. Boys wanting further details about these sessions or those taking place at school must see Mr. Taylor.

CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
LONDON SCHOOLS YEAR 7 AND 8 CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
AVERY HILL
TUESDAY MARCH 6TH 2012
Following their outstanding performances in the recent Lewisham Schools Year 7 and 8 cross country championships, eight of our students represented Lewisham in the London Championships on March 6th.
These championships featured the best cross country runners for the age groups across London and, as was the case at Beckenham Place Park, our boys once again produced excellent performances in fields of over 100 runners.
YEAR 7 RACE
In the Year 7 race, Joshua Ukairo-Stevens finished 32nd, Joe Sterba-Podro 34th and Guy Baskerville 35th. Our boys efforts contributed to the Lewisham team finishing in 6th place overall.
YEAR 8 RACE
It was in the Year 8 race that three of our students produced particularly noteworthy performances. Kamaludin Gabo finished 8th, Ayo Harty-Clarke 13th and Jai Perkins 15th. Our other two year 8 runners also performed with great credit and with many more runners behind rather than in front of them – Elikem Agbesi finished 24th and Kai Thorne 48th. The performances of these students also significantly contributed to the Lewisham team finishing 3rd overall.
This competition brought to a close yet another extremely successful cross country season for Forest Hill. Very well done to all students who have contributed towards this and I look forward to see you all adding to our successes when the season resumes later in the year.
