World Maths Day
Maths Department News
Our students are currently involved in two exciting projects: The UK Maths Challenge and World Maths Day. Here’s what two of them had to say about the projects.
The UK Maths Challenge is going on throughout the year; we took a test before Christmas where we answered 25 questions. We also compete against other schools and sometimes visit them to take part. The competitive side of the challenge makes it more interesting.
We are also taking part in World Maths Day; in one Maths lesson we used our laptops to take part in Maths games against students all over the world for example Japan, Australia and India; I was excited to find that I was competing against another boy also called Samir who lived in Kazakhstan. There were 5 levels of game, level 1 being the easiest. We came first or second in some of the Level 1 and 2 games; Sharif tried the Level 5 to see what it was like but it was quite difficult. Some games are played one to one and some are played by teams of up to three against three, you change games through the lesson. This was a practice and we will take part in the actual day later.
